Natural Alternatives for Improved Lung Health

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is used to describe a variety of conditions, such as Chronic Bronchitis, Emphysema, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, Pulmonary Fibrosis, and Sarcoidosis.

Asthma, a chronic respiratory condition that our office evaluates and treats with very good results, does not fall under the umbrella of COPD. Instead, it is considered a type of autoimmune disease. According to the American Lung Association, there are approximately 14 million Americans diagnosed with COPD, but millions more may have the disease without knowing it.

How Do I Know If I Have COPD?

The first symptom of COPD is shortness of breath with exertion, such as walking upstairs or climbing a hill. Other common symptoms include:

  • Chronic coughing
  • Tightness in Chest
  • Wheezing

COPD is diagnosed with spirometry and pulse oximetry testing. Spirometry testing is a painless breathing test where the patient blows forcefully into a tube connected to a small spirometer device. The device records how much air you inhale, how much you exhale, and how quickly you exhale the breath of air.

Pulse oximetry testing is a noninvasive method for monitoring a person’s oxygen saturation. A six-minute walk test, another clinical tool to assess patients living with COPD, is completed to evaluate stamina, exercise capacity, and exercise tolerance.

Medical treatment for COPD typically includes only symptomatic treatment: bronchodilators and medications with multiple side effects to reduce symptoms associated with COPD. However, none of these medications address the root cause(s) of COPD.

Laboratory, Nutritional, Dietary and Lifestyle Consultations

Although the initial history, examination, lab testing, and treatments must be completed in person, all weekly follow-up consultations and lifestyle training can be done either by telephone or computer. During these consultations, you will receive extremely effective Chinese herbal supplementation and personalized nutritional supplement plans based on your laboratory test results.

Cost for the program for the first month is approximately $3,850. When treatment is needed for more than one month, the cost is approximately $1,900 per month. If you are traveling a long distance to receive treatment, we recommend staying 2 days for your initial treatments.

It is important to remember that the 2017 study published in the New England Journal of Medicine demonstrates the importance of early diagnosis and treatment, as researchers discovered that, over time, those living with even the mildest form of COPD who were treated early fared better overall than those who were not treated early.
